A chargeback is a way for your bank that issued your card to reclaim money from the retailer’s bank when you do not get the goods or services you paid for, including if the retailer or supplier has gone out of business. Before pursuing any chargeback, you should first try to contact the merchant, retailer or service provider for any dispute you may have.
Chargebacks are not a legal right, but if you have paid on a Visa debit or credit card, you can address a chargeback claim to the bank that issued your card, and they can then put in a request to the retailer’s bank.

Visa's ZERO liability policy* is a measure that allows you to contact your bank to request a refund for an unauthorized transaction made with your card. The cases in which this measure can be put into practice is when your Visa credit or debit card has been stolen or has been used fraudulently both for online payments and in traditional stores.
Visa's ZERO liability policy is where your bank could be returning the amount defrauded as a result of a transaction made with your credit or debit card when it has not been authorized by you within five business days after a fraud notification. However, your bank could make a provisional refund to investigate and verify the case of fraud. The return would be rescinded in the event of gross negligence on your part or delay in notification of unauthorized use.
* Visa's ZERO Liability Policy does not apply to transactions made with certain business cards, anonymous prepaid cards, or transactions not processed by Visa. Cardholders must notify their bank immediately of the loss of their card or any unauthorized use. Contact your bank for further details.
If your flight is cancelled at the last minute, for example if an airline goes into administration, or in other circumstances outside of your control, you may be able to get your money back if you’ve paid with your Visa card.
The first step is to contact the retailer, or the tour operator that you made the purchase from to understand whether you are covered by a bonding authority or insurance scheme. If you are not fully covered and only partial or no compensation will be paid through this route, you can then speak to the bank that issued your card to look at more options.
